What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH),uses Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and combines it with hypnosis - trance resulting in a session where the client focusses on the present, discusses with the therapists ways to manage the present and see a positive future followed by deep relaxation- trance, which is described as meditation with goals.

Our thoughts and the energy connected with them are often concentrating on events in the past or indeed the future, anxieties about events that probably won't even happen. Solution focused hypnotherapy doesn't dwell on past events but encourages you to live in this moment in time the here and now and building positive futures.

Hypnosis is the bringing together of the conscious and subconscious minds in a trance state. It is a safe, powerful technique creating a deeply relaxed state of the body, mind and emotions. It is also a perfectly natural relaxed state of the mind that we are often in during our everyday lives i.e whilst reading a book, watching television, or doing repeated tasks.

The therapist is a facilitator that guides you into a relaxed state and uses the power of positive suggestion. The client remains in control of their own mind and body.

What happens during the session?

Everyone has the resources within them to make a change. In our initial consultation I will explain a very simplified version of how the brain works and I will relate it to how this contributes to your problems at this time. Our sessions together will consist of approximately 20 minutes of discussing your hopes and the conversation will give you the tools to move forward with goal setting in a positive way. This will be followed by approximately 20 minutes of hypnosis whilst you are in a comfortable position, where your mind will relax and enable you to problem solve. People explain this as feeling safe, being able to hear the sounds around them and always say it is a pleasurable experience. At the end of the session, I will give you a hypnosis media track so you can listen at home using self-hypnosis in the same way.

IBS and Clinical Evidence
Hypnotherapy has been used with both adults and children to help manage the pain associated with irritable bowel. There is evidence to support its use in this condition for both adults and children and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Guidance (NICE) recommends the NHS should consider referring patients for hypnotherapy if their irritable bowel is persistent and has failed to respond to simple prescribed medicine.
