Living with Chronic Pain
Chronic pain, defined as pain lasting beyond twelve weeks or past the point of natural healing, can significantly impact your quality of life. It can restrict your daily activities and prevent you from enjoying things you once loved. Beyond the physical discomfort, living with chronic pain can lead to emotional and physiological consequences, such as depression, irregular blood pressure, and disruptions in digestion and heart function.
Some pain is easily traceable to its source, while in other cases, it arises from unknown injuries or irritations. Pain is subjective and deeply personal. As Margo McCaffery stated, “Pain is whatever the experiencing person says it is, existing whenever they say it does.” This principle guides our approach to pain management.
How Hypnotherapy Helps with Pain
Hypnotherapy has been used as a safe and effective method for managing pain for over 250 years. Modern research supports its effectiveness in reducing chronic pain without side effects, making it an excellent option for long-term relief. Hypnotherapy, when used in conjunction with medical treatment, can help reduce both the emotional and physical toll of chronic pain.
Hypnosis for pain relief is now being taught to health professionals by the British Pain Society which is great news for the future. - http://www.britishpainsociety.org
How Can I Help You?
During our sessions, we’ll explore how chronic pain affects your life and determine what approaches have or haven’t worked for you. We will then move into a deeply relaxing trance state, where we use visual imagery and focused attention to help your mind and body relax. This method allows the brain to explore solutions to manage pain more effectively. You will also receive a relaxation track to use at home and be taught self-hypnosis techniques so you can continue to manage your pain independently.
